A man suspected of a gruesome femicide in Thika in October 2024 has been arrested in Busia by DCI detectives after months on the run. The suspect, accused of murdering a woman whose body was found in a residential building, was traced near the Kenya–Uganda border.

• 2024 recorded the highest number of femicide cases in Kenya’s history, with at least 170 women killed.
• Between September and November 2024, 97 femicide cases were recorded, averaging more than one killing per day.
• Intimate partners and family members were responsible for approximately 77 percent of femicide cases between 2016 and 2024.
• The majority of victims were women aged between 18 and 35 years, with suspects predominantly men within the same age group.
