The United States has issued a stern warning to Rwanda regarding alleged military involvement in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), citing violations of the Washington Accords signed earlier this month. This comes amid escalating conflict and the continued advance of the M23 rebel group.

• The Washington Accords were signed by Rwanda President Paul Kagame and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi on December 4, witnessed by several African heads of state including President William Ruto.
• US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on December 14 that the U.S. "will take action" to ensure Rwanda upholds its commitments.
• The U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz accused the Rwandan Defence Forces of providing "material, logistics, and training support to M23" and fighting alongside them with an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 troops.
• Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe accused the international community of "double standards."
• Congolese Foreign Minister Therese Katukwamba Wagner called for sanctions against Rwanda.
