A viral image circulating online depicting the prominent Mood matatu, owned by President William Ruto's son, George Ruto, crashed is confirmed to be fake. Investigators determined the image was AI-generated, not a real accident photo.

Kenyans.co.ke's visual spot check and multiple AI detection tools (reversely.ai, wasitai.com, and isgen.ai) confirmed the image's artificial origin, with some showing 100 percent certainty.
Branden Marshall, an industry insider with links to the Mood crew, clarified that the vehicle is in perfect condition and operating normally.
Reasons for generating the fake image include hatred towards the owner, creativity, and seeking attention.
The Ksh14 million matatu previously made headlines after debuting in July and was involved in a real accident in Eldoret on September 14, 2025, when it was hit from behind.
