Truck drivers, through the Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA), are demanding formal employment and structured remuneration amidst a rise in road accidents, particularly during the festive season. They argue that informal arrangements contribute to exploitation, long hours, and driver fatigue, which are direct causes of increased crashes.

Road crash deaths increased from 4,479 to 4,682 between 2024 and 2025, according to provisional NTSA data.
LoDDCA calls for full enforcement of an eight-hour working limit for PSV drivers and stronger multi-agency operations including driver representatives.
These demands coincide with new measures from Chief Justice Martha Koome, including deploying mobile courts and EACC officers along transport corridors to curb road carnage and corruption.
