The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into the fatal road accident on Saturday, December 13, 2025, that resulted in the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo. The crash, a head-on collision, occurred at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway, involving Jirongo’s vehicle and a Climax Company Limited public service vehicle (PSV) bus.
- Preliminary findings indicate the collision occurred at approximately 02:19 A.M., with Jirongo’s vehicle being pushed about 25 metres from impact.
- The DCI recovered CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station, showing Jirongo driving into the station at 2:18:40 a.m. and the PSV bus ramming into his vehicle at 2:19:25 a.m.
- The PSV driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was released on cash bail pending further investigations into causing death by dangerous driving and is to report back to the Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22, 2025.
- Investigations are ongoing, including examining Jirongo's movements before the crash and recording statements from passengers and witnesses, with a file to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
