Kenyan motor vehicle importers and industry players have forcefully rejected the proposed National Automotive Industry Development Bill, 2025, calling it oppressive and non-inclusive. They demand the Bill be withdrawn and redrafted to incorporate the views of all stakeholders.

• The Car Importers Association of Kenya (CIAK), represented by chairman Peter Otieno, has criticized the Bill for sidelining importers, small-scale artisans, and garage operators.
• The proposed law would mandate all vehicle assemblers and manufacturers to be registered and licensed by the National Automotive Council (NAC), a body stakeholders fear will increase bureaucracy and operational costs, potentially pushing small dealers out of business.
• Stakeholders, including Earnest Mokaya from the Jua Kali sector and David Mbadi, chairperson of the Kisii Industrial Artisans Association, have called for extended public participation and transparent dissemination of the Bill.
