Kenya Railways has announced the reintroduction of the Kisumu Safari Train service to meet surge in travel demand for the December holidays. The train, which had been out of operation for almost a year, will run from Friday, December 19, until January 12, 2026, offering an affordable and reliable alternative to buses for those traveling to Western Kenya.

  • A first-class ticket will cost Ksh2,400, while an economy ticket will be Ksh900 for the approximately 13-hour journey.
  • The train will depart Nairobi Central Station at 5:30 pm and arrive in Kisumu at 6:30 am.
  • This follows a similar move by Kenya Railways to introduce an additional train on the Nairobi–Mombasa route from December 8 to January 5.
