The United States military has conducted a "massive strike" against the Islamic State group (IS) in Syria, in retaliation for a deadly attack on American forces. Over 70 targets were hit across central Syria using more than 100 precision munitions.

• The strike involved fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery from the US and Jordan, targeting IS infrastructure and weapons sites.
• Operation Hawkeye Strike was launched after an IS ambush on December 13 in Palmyra killed two US soldiers and a US civilian interpreter.
• US Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, stated the operation was "a declaration of vengeance," asserting the US would "relentlessly pursue terrorists."
