President William Ruto has ordered residents in Kenya's Trans Mara region to surrender illegal firearms immediately to restore calm after recent violence. The government has declared 14 areas in Trans Mara West and South as disturbed and dangerous following clashes that claimed seven lives and displaced hundreds.

• Six suspects, including a Lolgorian MCA, have been arrested in connection with the violence, which is attributed to a land dispute exploited by influential individuals.
