The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has energized the 400/220kV Mariakani Substation, a crucial power gateway connecting Kenya's Coast to the national grid. This development is part of the Nairobi-Mombasa Transmission Line project, aiming to transmit over 1000MW of electricity and reduce reliance on expensive diesel power in the coastal region.

• The substation cost KES 3B, funded by the Government of Kenya and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
• KETRACO Acting Managing Director Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias stated it will enable cleaner energy from Olkaria, Lake Turkana Wind Plant, and Ethiopia to reach the coast.
• The project was implemented by China CAMC Eng. Co. Ltd and is vital for Kenya's goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2030.
