The incident occurred on December 22 at Chepyemit Beat, Cheptongei Forest Station, Elgeyo/Marakwet County, where a man was found allegedly felling indigenous trees illegally.

The KFS reported the man resisted arrest and attempted to attack officers with a panga, prompting the ranger to use "reasonable force" in self-defense.
The incident is documented at Chepyemit Police Station under OB No. 12/22/12/25.
The man was evacuated and taken to Iten Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.
National Police Service has taken over investigations.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki recently affirmed that law enforcement will protect rangers, and those who threaten them will face justice.
