Police Inspector-General Douglas Kanja has announced a nationwide deployment of officers and launched an alco-blow operation to ensure security and road safety ahead of New Year 2026 celebrations in Kenya.

• Extensive security measures are in place across the country, with officers deployed to public spaces including towns, residential areas, places of worship, entertainment venues, and transport corridors.
• The National Police Service (NPS) will conduct breathalyzer operations in collaboration with other agencies to deter drunk driving, which is a leading cause of preventable accidents.
• The Police IG urged citizens to be vigilant, cooperate with officers, adhere to traffic rules, and ensure celebratory activities like fireworks are conducted by licensed operators to maintain public peace.
