Zanzibar will host the Blue Voices Regional Summit 2026 from January 26–28, bringing together delegations from Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Zanzibar to combat escalating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the South West Indian Ocean. This summit aims to strengthen regional coordination, information sharing, and regulations to safeguard the ocean's resources.

• Kenya alone loses an estimated KSh10 billion annually to illegal fishing activities.
• The summit, themed "One Ocean, One Voice," is co-hosted by Zanzibar’s Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries and The Jahazi Project, in partnership with Ascending Africa.
• Delegates will discuss joint action plans, intelligence sharing, and standardizing enforcement to counter IUU fishing, which accounts for 20–30 percent of fish harvested in the region.
