The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has opposed bond for eight Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers charged with trafficking methamphetamine worth over KSh 192 million. The soldiers appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Gladys Olimo at the Mombasa Law Courts on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, denying all charges.

• The accused were found in possession of varying quantities of methamphetamine, with one suspect charged with trafficking 2,601 grams worth KSh 20.8 million.
• The ODPP, represented by prosecution counsel Brenda Oganda, argued against bond due to the gravity of the offenses and the risk of witness interference given the soldiers' military backgrounds.
• This development follows a previous incident where KDF personnel were involved in intercepting a dhow transporting 1,024 kilograms of methamphetamine, after which some officers were accused of stealing drugs.
