The African Union (AU) and China have jointly urged the upholding of a global order based on international law, expressing concern over a US military operation in Venezuela that reportedly led to the capture of President Nicolus Maduro.

• This call was made during the 9th China–African Union Strategic Dialogue held at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.
• The joint statement by AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
• The dialogue also initiated the 2026 China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and discussed strengthening cooperation on various initiatives including zero-tariff treatment, global governance, and affirming the One-China principle.
