US President Donald Trump announced he plans to meet with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado next week in Washington, following the recent capture of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

• The meeting would be the first between Trump and Machado.
• Machado has offered to share her Nobel Peace Prize with Trump.
• Trump suggested Venezuela is not in a position to hold new elections and needs to be "rebuilt."
