Two Kenyan pilots have revealed the top-secret mission they undertook 31 years ago to transport the body of former Somali President Siad Barre from Lagos, Nigeria, to Garbaharey, Somalia, for burial in January 1995.

Pilots Hussein Mohamed Anshuur and Mohamed Adan were approached by a Nigerian diplomat to covertly charter an aircraft.
The mission involved flying approximately 4,300 kilometres, discreetly bypassing Kenyan authorities to avoid political complications.
The pilots used a Beechcraft King Air B200, filing a false flight manifest to Kisumu, then diverting to Entebbe, Uganda, and Yaoundé, Cameroon, before reaching Lagos.
They transported Barre's casket, along with two Nigerian officials and six family members, using a Nigerian Air Force call sign "WT 001" at one point.
The clandestine journey exploited gaps in air traffic radar coverage prevalent in 1995, a feat the now 65-year-old Anshuur says would be impossible today.
