Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared January 15 and 16, 2026, as public holidays to allow citizens to participate in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

• These public holidays empower voters to travel, queue, and cast their ballots without work interruptions across Uganda.
• Museveni, in power since 1986 and now 81, is seeking another term against main challenger Bobi Wine in their second electoral face-off.
• The elections involve 21.6 million registered voters for the presidential contest, 353 constituency Members of Parliament, and 146 women representatives.
