The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has ordered a temporary suspension of public internet access and some mobile services during the ongoing election period, effective January 13th at 18:00. This directive, based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Security Committee, aims to combat misinformation, disinformation, electoral fraud, and incitement to violence online.

• The suspension includes public internet access (social media, web browsing, messaging apps), the sale and registration of new SIM cards, and outbound data roaming to One Network Area countries.
• Critical services such as national referral hospitals, core banking networks, government services, and utilities, along with their operational support systems like Network Operations Centers and cybersecurity systems, remain active for authorized personnel.
• The shutdown encompasses a wide range of networks, including mobile broadband, fibre optic, and satellite internet services.
