Hundreds of senior citizens in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, received national ID cards for the first time or as replacements during an ongoing government mobile registration drive. Many had lost their IDs decades ago, leaving them unable to access essential services and participate in civic duties.

• Fredrick Agawa, 72, had not voted or held bank accounts for nearly 5 decades after losing his ID in the 1970s.
• The Ministry of Interior launched the fee-waived mobile registration exercise in October 2025, operating in wards countrywide.
• The new IDs will allow residents like Agawa and Michael Onyang to access crucial government services such as Inua Jamii and Social Health Authority (SHA) benefits, and participate in voting.
