The Seafarers Wages Council (SWC), inaugurated last year in Kilifi County by the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua, has been unable to commence its work due to a severe lack of funding.

• The 11-member council, launched on April 4 last year, was established to safeguard the welfare and rights of seafarers, including fair compensation and safety.
• The council is chaired by Mombasa-based maritime logistics expert Mwinyi Jahazi.
• It is designed to operate under the Labour and Social Protection Ministry.
