Ola Energy and Proto Energy have partnered to significantly expand autogas refilling points across Kenya, capitalizing on the growing demand for autogas as a cheaper and cleaner alternative to traditional fuels.
- As of June 2025, there were 18 licensed autogas dispensing stations; this has since grown to 35 outlets.
- The partnership aims to integrate autogas refilling points at 15 Ola Energy outlets initially, with 5 in Nairobi and 10 distributed countrywide.
- A liter of autogas costs approximately KSh 90, significantly lower than KSh 184 for petrol and KSh 171 for diesel in Nairobi.
- The cost of converting a vehicle to use autogas is about KSh 67,000.
- Joel Kamau, Chief Executive of Proto Energy, stated there are 15,000 to 20,000 autogas vehicles in Kenya, compared to 27 million globally.
