Uchumi Supermarket has reopened two branches in Nairobi, at Unicity Mall and Lang’ata Hyper, as the retailer attempts to revive operations after years of financial difficulties.

• The reopening follows a return to profitability for Uchumi Supermarket, which reported a profit of Sh8.8 million in the financial year ended June 2025.
• The retailer, founded in 1976, is implementing a turnaround strategy under a court-supervised Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
• Increased rental income from tenants, including China Square at Unicity Mall, significantly contributed to the improved financial performance.
