The United States has issued a security warning for its citizens in Uganda following heightened tensions after presidential elections held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, with official results still pending. The U.S. Embassy in Uganda cautioned Americans after reports of security forces using teargas and firing shots to disperse gatherings.

• President Yoweri Museveni is currently leading with 5,148,845 votes, representing 75.38 per cent of counted votes.
• Opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is in second place with 1,414,619 votes or 20.71 per cent.
