Veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli has been re-elected unopposed as General Secretary of the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) for another five-year term. This re-election empowers him to contest for Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU-K) in the upcoming August elections.

Atwoli has served as General Secretary of KPAWU since 1994 and COTU-K Secretary General since 2001.
Under his leadership, COTU-K membership surged from 300,000 to over four million workers.
He secured a 31 percent salary increase for some workers at KPAWU in 2020.
Atwoli is the first person to serve four consecutive terms on the International Labour Organisation Governing Body.
