Two major regional transport agencies, the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) and the Central Corridor Transit and Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA), have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in Mombasa to enhance transport efficiency and trade across Eastern and Central Africa.
- The MoC aims to strengthen collaboration, avoid duplication of efforts, and ensure efficient movement of goods and people across various transport modes including roads, railways, and waterways.
- The NCTTCA, originating from the port of Mombasa, serves Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan, while the CCTTFA, linked to Dar es Salaam, serves Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Malawi, and Zambia.
- Key areas of cooperation include green corridor development, multimodal infrastructure integration, digitalization, environmental sustainability, road safety, non-tariff barrier monitoring, and harmonization of transport policies.
- The agreement will remain in force for an initial period of five years and aligns with continental development priorities like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
