The University of Nairobi has reclaimed its position as Kenya's top higher education institution, surpassing Kenyatta University in a recent global ranking. This comes after the release of the World University Rankings by Subject 2026 report compiled by the Times Higher Education.

The University of Nairobi outranked Kenyatta University in four subject categories: Business and Economics, Medical and Health, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Kenyatta University led in Life Sciences, with both institutions recognized as leading research universities in Kenya.
Globally, elite institutions from the United States and the United Kingdom, such as Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, and Cambridge, dominated the subject rankings.
