The Kenyan government has announced free primary healthcare services for registered citizens through new Green Label Facilities under the Social Health Authority (SHA) system, aiming to alleviate the burden of hospital bills. Bomet Health Centre is the first to implement this model, covering consultations, diagnostics, and medications.

• The SHA will cover primary care services including disease screening, immunisation, maternal and child healthcare, and treatment for chronic conditions like diabetes.
• The SHA has been highly controversial since replacing the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in October 2024, with many Kenyans reporting it covers less than 15 per cent of treatment costs.
• President William Ruto insists SHA is working, claiming over 25 million Kenyans have registered, despite admitting health reforms have made his government unpopular.
