The Ministry of Education is facing severe backlash after over 700,000 Grade Nine learners failed to report for Grade 10 by last weekend, citing poor government preparations, hidden fees, and inadequate school placements. Issues compounded by the reclassification of schools and insufficient infrastructure are hindering the transition to senior secondary.

• Over 700,000 Grade Nine learners have not reported for Grade 10, with only 61% of learners having reported by last Sunday, particularly in reclassified C4 day schools.
• Mr. Boaz Waruku, Elimu Bora Policy and Strategy Advisor, criticised the State's poor preparations and the reintroduction of school categorisation, despite recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform (PWPER) to move to career-oriented pathways.
• Concerns were raised by Dr. Vincent Gaitho, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council at Mount Kenya University (MKU), about the long-term impact on the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system and the need for significant investment in infrastructure and teacher training.
