The Nairobi City County government plans to install smart street lighting across the city in partnership with the National Government to enhance safety and service delivery, addressing a current deficit of 40,000 lights.

• Currently, Nairobi operates 70,000 street lights against a demand of 110,000.
• The project aims to integrate existing street lights into a new smart system for real-time monitoring and timely repairs.
• Ibrahim Auma Nyangoya, County Executive Committee Member for Mobility and Works, stated that proper street lighting enhances public safety, supports night-time economic activities, improves mobility, and deters crime.
