Members of the Kenyan National Assembly will convene in Nakuru for a five-day legislative retreat to plan priorities for the upcoming Fifth Session of the August House, 2026. The retreat, themed “Securing Parliamentary Legacy: Delivering the Fifth Session’s Agenda and Preparing for Transition,” aims to consolidate the 13th Parliament’s work as the 2027 General Election approaches.
- Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, emphasized the need for swift action on critical business, stating they are entering the “Golden Hour” of the 13th Parliament.
- Legislators will assess readiness for the next General Election, engaging with the new Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Erastus Edung Ethekon, and the Registrar of Political Parties, John Lorionokou.
- The retreat will also serve as a performance audit for healthcare and education, with Health Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Aden Duale, addressing Social Health Authority (SHA) implementation, and the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system under review.
- National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, John Mbadi, will brief lawmakers on the economic outlook, including the privatization of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
