After three decades in Kenyan politics, former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has announced his retirement to focus on promoting workplace happiness, a decision supported by his wife. This follows his defeat in the 2022 elections and a subsequent appointment to the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) board in 2023.

• He was defeated in the 2022 elections but was appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) by President William Ruto in April 2023 for a three-year term.
• Murungi experienced near depression after his 2022 election loss and will now advocate for happiness, coaching politicians on life after public office.
