The Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has reported severe underfunding, jeopardizing the clearance of 32 political parties ahead of the 2027 General Election due to a significant budget shortfall and inadequate allocation of the Political Parties Fund.

• The ORPP was allocated Sh508 million for the current financial year against a budget requirement of Sh1.6 billion, leaving only Sh132 million for operational activities after statutory deductions.
• To ascertain full registration for each of the 32 provisionally registered parties, an additional Sh3.9 million per party is required to verify the presence of 24 offices in 24 counties and 1,000 members per county.
• Registrar of Political Parties John Cox stated that the National Treasury has consistently failed to allocate the full 0.03 percent of nationally raised revenue to the Political Parties Fund, with only Sh883 million being received in 2023/24 against an expected Sh5.9 billion.
