Kenyan Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for enhanced oversight and transparency in the regulation and financing of political parties as the 2027 General Elections approach. This concern was raised during a legislative retreat in Naivasha on Tuesday, January 27, where they engaged with Registrar of Political Parties John Lorionokou.

• The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) received Ksh 508.6 million, significantly less than the required Ksh 1.6 billion, impacting its functions like verifying party offices.
• Kathiani MP Robert Mbui stressed the need for transparency in party financing and accountability in expenditure to build public trust.
• Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo urged for fair and adequate financing to ensure the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in political leadership.
