Kenyan Opposition leaders have demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) sever ties with technology firm Smartmatic ahead of the 2027 General Election. During a meeting, opposition figures raised concerns about the firm's past performance and potential manipulation of electronic transmission.

• The Opposition met with IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon and other commissioners to voice broad concerns, including insecurity during recent by-elections.
• The primary point of contention was Smartmatic, a Venezuelan-based firm that has supplied IEBC with election technology, including KIEMS kits.
• Opposition leaders, including Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Kalonzo Musyoka, cited issues with Smartmatic's technology in Uganda and demanded assurance of a free and fair election.
• The Opposition has also urged the IEBC to immediately launch mass voter registration for the upcoming elections.
