• The American national paid Ksh37 million upfront for 150 kg of gold after witnessing smelting operations and alleged storage in a joint-access vault.
• The scam was uncovered when transportation terms changed, and an unusual invoice raised suspicions, leading to a DCI raid on January 28, in Kilimani.
• Tests by the Ministry of Mining confirmed that the seized metallic bars were brass, not gold, after detectives accessed a residential house where the transaction reportedly took place in December.
