A U.S. judge has temporarily halted the Trump administration's arrest and detention of Somali refugees in Minnesota, following a controversial operation dubbed "Operation Parris" which saw over 100 people detained.

• On Wednesday, January 28, Judge John R. Tunheim ordered the immediate release of all detained refugees and an end to the operation, citing "stories of terror and trauma" and "irreparable harm."
• The crackdown targeted thousands of refugees across the U.S. for "re-vetting" – new background checks on individuals already cleared to reside in America.
• Many detainees were reportedly flown thousands of kilometers to Texas, only to be released without money, documents, or means to return home, sparking praise from human rights groups for the ruling.
