Kenyans are set to face increased costs for essential goods and services in 2026, with a new report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) indicating rising prices for staple foods, electricity, and education.
- The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages division saw a 7.3 per cent annual price increase by January 2026, contributing most to inflation.
- Prices for maize grain rose from Ksh69.39 per kilogram in December 2025 to Ksh71.28 in January 2026, while a 2-kilogram packet of fortified maize flour increased from KSh162.56 to KSh173.51.
- Overall annual inflation stood at 4.4 per cent in January 2026, slightly down from 4.5 per cent in December 2025, but energy and education costs also climbed.
