The Supreme Court of Kenya has dismissed Rigathi Gachagua’s application to halt impeachment proceedings against him at the High Court. A five-judge bench unanimously ruled that the apex court can only issue stay orders for proceedings before the Court of Appeal, not the High Court.

The Supreme Court decision was made on Friday, January 30.
The bench included Chief Justice Martha Koome and Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
The Supreme Court also dismissed a separate application by the National Assembly to strike out Gachagua’s own cross-appeal.
