The Uasin Gishu County Government has officially transferred Eldoret City management functions to the Board of the City of Eldoret, aiming to streamline urban services and enhance local governance. This move, effective from January 9, 2026, follows Eldoret's recognition as Kenya's fifth city in 2024.

• All resources, including human resource management, payroll, budgets, financial management, and assets, will transfer to the City of Eldoret Board.
• Key functions transferred include refuse collection and recycling, solid waste management, sanitation, urban road construction, street lighting, recreational parks, and emergency services.
• The transfer was announced in a Gazette Notice dated January 30, signed by Governor Jonathan Bii, citing the Constitution of Kenya and the Urban Areas and Cities Act of 2011.
