The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has mandated residents in Nairobi and other areas near airports and airstrips to install high-visibility red flashing aeronautical obstacle lights on their buildings within the next 30 days.

At least 25 Nairobi estates, including Nairobi West, Madaraka, and Lang’ata Estates, are affected by the directive.
The KCAA stated that construction within 15 kilometers of an aerodrome requires prior approval, specifically for building height to ensure air navigation safety.
Affected building owners must install Class B medium-intensity aeronautical obstacle lights at the highest points of their structures as per the Civil Aviation (Aerodromes) Regulations of 2013 or face enforcement action.
