The Ministry of Health has issued a travel advisory urging Kenyans to avoid non-essential travel to parts of India due to an outbreak of the Nipah Virus. While the risk of spread to Kenya is considered low, precautions are advised.

• Two confirmed cases of the Nipah Virus have been reported in the West Bengal region of India.
• Director-General of Health Patrick Amoth stated that no case has been reported in Africa.
• The Nipah Virus is a Zoonotic disease spread by fruit bats and can also transmit person-to-person or through contaminated food.
• The Ministry of Health is monitoring the situation and has advised strict personal hygiene and immediate medical attention for flu-like symptoms.
