Religious leaders in Kenya have united to protect children from violence, abuse, and neglect by signing the National Religious Leaders’ Declaration on Child Safeguarding. This initiative, a collaboration between the government, faith institutions, and communities, aims to ensure every child grows up safe and free from violence.

• The declaration was signed during the first National Religious Leaders’ Summit on Child Safeguarding, convened by the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services in partnership with the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) and UNICEF on February 4, 2026.
• The event also saw the launch of a faith-based handbook titled Faith for Life: Protecting and Safeguarding Our Children, offering practical guidance for religious institutions.
• Cabinet Secretary for Gender Hanna Cheptumo described the initiative as a "milestone in Kenya’s journey to end violence against children," despite existing strong legal frameworks like Article 53 of the Constitution and the Children Act of 2022.
