Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has publicly explained his defection from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to join former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), citing principle, ideology, and a rejection of perceived moral and democratic decay within UDA.

• Havi's primary grievance stemmed from being allegedly removed from the UDA voter register during the April 2024 grassroots elections at Hospital Hill Primary School.
• He stated his decision was also influenced by public perception of UDA as a "rogue regime accused of looting public funds," making continued association difficult.
• Havi formally resigned from UDA around October 2025 and chose DCP due to its institutional approach and focus on governance, equity, and constitutionalism, rather than personality worship.
