President Donald Trump has signed a massive Ksh759 billion funding package for global HIV programmes, marking a significant reversal of his administration's earlier decision to withdraw from several international organizations and funding for UNAIDS.

The funding package includes Ksh594 billion for bilateral HIV support and Ksh161.4 billion for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
An additional Ksh5.8 billion has been specifically allocated to UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.
This comes weeks after Trump initiated America's withdrawal from 66 international organizations and terminated funding for UNAIDS on January 7, 2026.
Winnie Byanyima, UNAIDS Executive Director, welcomed the new funding, highlighting its role in achieving the 95-95-95 targets to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
The United States Government has historically been the leading driver of the global HIV response, primarily through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
