In a heartwarming turn of events, Duncan Kibet, a 27-year-old man from Bomet, who walked 250 kilometres to Nairobi in search of university fees, has been granted unconditional admission to Mount Kenya University (MKU). This resolves Kibet’s 11-year wait since completing high school in 2015 to pursue higher education.

MKU confirmed on Monday, February 9, 2026, that Kibet will be accommodated in university hostels while pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree.
Kibet’s arduous four-day trek, which began on January 28, garnered widespread attention and support, raising Ksh12,000 primarily through a WhatsApp group.
Kibet had previously sacrificed his university dreams to support his younger brother's education at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
