The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has accused the police and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) of using "scorched-earth tactics" during Operation Maliza Uhalifu in the North Rift region, leading to human rights violations.

• On January 26, 2026, an operation in Silale, Baringo County, by Special Operations Groups (SOG) resulted in the killing of 70 cattle, 10 camels, and 50 goats.
• The KNCHR stated that tactics included destruction of property, closure of markets and water points, and forced displacement in areas like Silale, Riongo, Nginyang, and Naudo.
• The commission warned against treating operations as a “license to punish” and called for a holistic approach, including compensation for affected communities.
