Following the tragic drowning of four siblings in an abandoned quarry in Kanyakwar, Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong'o has ordered an immediate suspension of all quarrying activities.

• Only operations with valid legal approvals and demonstrable safety standards will be considered for resumption.
• Nyong'o mandated that no quarrying activity can operate without an approved, time-bound land rehabilitation and restoration plan.
• A joint task force involving the County Department of Environment, NEMA, and the Office of the County Commissioner will audit existing quarries and take legal action against illegal operators.
