Kenya's aviation workers have issued a seven-day strike notice, threatening to down tools unless the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) addresses long-standing labor grievances, including a failure to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) since 2015.
- The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), led by secretary general Moss Ndiema, issued the strike notice on Monday, January 9.
- The union claims five CBA cycles remain outstanding, leaving employees' terms unchanged for over 10 years.
- Workers also accuse management of refusing to deduct union dues, placing employees on prolonged contracts for permanent positions, and implementing new HR instruments without consultation, contrary to Public Service Commission (PSC) guidelines.
- Additionally, management has allegedly defied a court order from September 2025 to renew the contract of Flight Operations Inspector Vivian Ongwae.
