Kenya and the European Union have committed to deepening cooperation on human rights and governance following a high-level meeting between Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and EU Special Representative for Human Rights Kajsa Ollongren.

• Talks focused on strengthening collaboration under the Kenya–EU partnership framework, specifically concerning human rights, institutional governance, and challenges in the digital information space.
• Kenya reiterated its commitment to upholding human rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and emphasized the role of independent institutions like IPOA and a vibrant civil society.
• The EU welcomed Kenya’s progress and proposed a dedicated human rights pillar within the Kenya–EU Strategic Dialogue, also addressing the misuse of media and digital platforms.
• Kenya sought the European Union’s support for Prof. Phoebe Okowa’s candidature for election as a Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2034 term.
